This year, the selection of the competition program has been entrusted into the hands of three film experts. Last year’s selector Ana Šturm, a film critic, writer and editor-in-chief of Ekran magazine for film and TV, has been joined by the culturologist and film critic Veronika Zakonjšek and the film and theatre actor Petja Labović.
Ana Šturm explains that “film selection is always about picking the best, most relevant, topical and diverse film productions. Since Krafft is a film festival focusing on actors and the art of acting, our emphasis will again be on the films with outstanding and exhilarating acting achievements–may that be true of the main role, a side role or coming from the whole acting ensemble.”
Veronika Zakonjšek adds that the second edition of Krafft will also bring outstanding film actors to Kranj–the stars of both the silver and the TV screen. Beside the carefully curated film program and other events taking place in picturesque locations, attending the festival will bring a valuable opportunity for live and real contact with film creators, according to Zakonjšek. In the relaxed summery atmosphere, the audience will be able to mingle and talk withlocal and international guests. Petja Labović concludes with the following thought on the importance of Krafft to the development of film culture: “Beside the general joy I feel about everything film-related at Krafft, I am especially excited about two things: the focus given to acting creations and the decentralisation of film education and culture.” He says he wishes that “the occasional festivals and screenings (in cities that are not Ljubljana) would grow into something steady and even bring about the development of city cinemas with alternative film programming.”
