A former defense tower and part of the old city wall, Škrlovec Tower has become a vibrant cultural centre after the renovations in 2011. There is an intimate venue on the bottom floor, where Prešeren Theatre Kranj stages smaller productions with innovative settings and Layer House hosts concerts and other cultural and educational evenings.

Layer House is one of the main cultural and social hubs in Kranj. It is also known as the House of Artists. Art, music, film, creativity, education and a cosy café bustle with life here all year round. It is situated in the old town centre in the proximity of the Khislstein Castle. Next to Layer House, there is the Škrlovec Tower.

Vovk Garden is next to the Khislstein Castle. It is ensconced by the remains of the old city wall, sporting modern touch embellishments. Where the defense tower used to be is now a half-circle construction serving as a stage for different cultural events.

Prešeren Theatre Kranj is a professional repertory theatre, famous for its politically engaged productions. It is located on the main square of the old town centre next to the majestic statue of France Prešeren. The auditorium seats 241 people with the upper foyer hosting cultural events and opening nights.
